Library cuts debated tonight

The Concord City Council will debate cuts to the public library tonight. The Concord Monitor has an overview here: ["Trimming down the library"]. I have early deadlines this week, due to the Memorial Day holiday, so I won't have time to attend the hearing. I will, however, see if I can sneak an email over to the Council beforehand with some ideas. I will also publish them here.

I attended the library hearing. After the public hearing the Council voted against an amendment from Councilor Jan McClure to restore $10,950 to the materials fund, letting the city manager's cuts of $107,700 stand--for now. Mayor Bouley said that considering the public testimony to restore library staffing and hours, the Council might at the end of the budget season amend the library budget if councilors decide they want to cut elsewhere.
